Junior Ambassador Program

One of the most rewarding and enjoyable programs available to young people is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Youth Ambassador Program. This program allows the participant many venues in which to speak about and represent children with Type 1 diabetes. In turn, the general public is able to have a clearer understanding of life as a juvenile diabetic, and is more willing to support the mission to find a cure.

Youth Ambassadors may represent JDRF in some of the following arenas: Gala night activities, Walk to Cure Diabetes activities, advocacy of JDRF to our state and federal governments, representation of JDRF as a spokesperson at events or in the media and help in mentoring newly diagnosed families. In an effort to create uniformity and equal participation across the program, the following guidelines have been created. These guidelines have been established for maximum impact of the JDRF mission, and to provide the most rewarding experience for the youth and their family.

Youth Ambassadors must be Type 1 diabetics.

Youth Ambassadors are limited to active participants in the local chapter only. In the event that there is a higher demand for participation by Ambassadors than positions available, overall chapter participation will be considered.*

Youth Ambassadors will, at all times, represent the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and will follow all mission statements and talking points created by JDRF.

Youth Ambassadors will not be permitted to make any false statement, or offer any opinion that is not in agreement or accordance with JDRF.

Youth Ambassadors will be chosen to meet criteria needed. (For example, an older child with good speaking skills will be selected to do media interviews. For appearances only, all age groups are highly encouraged to participate.)

Finally, Youth Ambassadors are permitted to be representatives regardless of age, and are permitted to remain JDRF’s representatives for as many years as desired.
